I wanted the room to feel formal and glamorous, but still eclectic and fun. My goal in my home is to decorate with things I love – not necessarily pick a decorating style (like farmhouse or modern) and imitate it. The result is that my space feels very unique and the style is very “me.”
I love the look of crystal and really wanted a crystal chandelier in our dining room. AMF is not as thrilled by crystal as I am. We compromised and purchased the Clarissa Chandelier from Pottery Barn. I think I won the compromise.
I knew I wanted a big reclaimed dining room table. I think the Pottery Barn Bowry Table has the reclaimed look I wanted, but still feels formal enough for a dining room space.
I change out the photos in my gallery wall almost every season. It’s a fun way to decorate for the holidays and it doesn’t add clutter/knick knack items to our home.
If you’ve seen any of my fashion posts, you know that I LOVE stripes. These Kate Spade placemats are always on my dining room table in the spring and summer. I added crystal candle sticks and a vintage goblet to play up the glam. Baby proofing tip – when all else fails, use a bungee cord (notice the bungee cord around my buffet).
Our dining room is right off our living room. I wanted a changing space for Michael on the main floor and it ended up here. Our downstairs changing table is also a dog crate. I can’t wait to fill this space with a fun new piece of furniture after we are done with diapers. I love china and I am considering a number of buffet option so I can fit another set of china in our home.
ModernMoochi tip: I always hang a few large platters in my dining or kitchen space. This saves storage space in my cabinets, plus I get to enjoy looking at them because they are no hidden away. When I entertain, I just pull one off the wall and wash it – this system works great!
Our dining chairs and this buffet were actually my grandmother’s set. I painted them a champagne color because they needed a little TLC after years of love. The champagne color has worked well because it blends with both silver and gold. In a previous home I had brass hardware and lighting and the furniture looked great there as well! I covered the chairs in a fun bird print.
