Our living room is nestled between our kitchen and dining room spaces. I wanted it to feel comfortable and homey and also serve as a transition between the casual feeling kitchen and more formal dining space.
Fun fact: the area that we use as a living room was original supposed to be the dining room. We chose to use it as our living room because it had the only wall in the entire house that fits our giant shelving unit. The shelving unit is a consignment store find and is one of my most favorite pieces. When we were looking for our next home, a space for the shelving unit was a big consideration.
Let’s talk about these ottomans. I originally bought them for a space in my home as a single gal back in Evansville, Indiana. I’d like to eventually replace them with a real coffee table. I really like the look of all glass coffee tables (like this). That being said, they are the perfect living room item for anyone with a baby – we didn’t have to baby proof them at all since they are already cushioned, the wipe clean with a wet rag and they are the perfect height for cruising and climbing! If you are pregnant or have a small child, I highly recommend using ottomans instead of a coffee table.
I purchased this pair of white tables for my house as a single gal. They are not AMF’s favorite item – he thinks they are too feminine. They have ended up in all three of our living rooms since we got married because they are the perfect size and always fit in a corner of the room. I have my favorite mercury glass lamp in a corner so that Moochi can’t pull it down.
Our shelving unit is a bit of a mess and unbalanced right now. Moochi is at the age where he just can’t help himself when it comes to grabbing anything within his reach. When he gets a little older, I will do a major shelving unit reorganization and update the blog.
I am planning to replace our living room couch with a small leather couch in the near future. I’d like to move the cloth couch upstair to our bedroom because there is room for a small sitting area.
