I am nosy and love when people do “What’s in my Purse” or “What’s in my Diaper Bag” posts. I thought a what’s in my gym bag post would be a fun thing to feature on my blog!
If you follow me on Instagram, specifically on Instastories, you know that I workout before going to my office on Tuesdays.
I am definitely not one of those people who can somehow make a wet bun look office-chic. I have to shower at the gym and blowout my hair before I get to work. I’ve perfected my routine and have the “getting ready” process down to about 35 minutes. My trick? Products and tools that multi-task.
Note: I took these photos at home in my own bathroom. Taking selfies in the gym locker-room is majorly frowned upon.
The bag: I use the large Longchamp Le Pliage’ Tote. I love using a nylon longchamp as a gym bag because it wipes clean and is extremely durable. If you are considering how you might reward yourself for meeting your fitness or weight loss goals, a new gym bag might be a great option!
Towel/Bathwrap – this wrap is a must have for getting ready in the gym locker room with dignity. It serves a double purpose as a towel and a coverup to wear while I do my hair and makeup. Its cheap on Amazon and lacks the quality I usually demand in my products. I compared the thickness to the one’s I’ve found in stores and they are no better. At the end of the day, it works, stays up and keeps me covered while I get ready. There is nothing worse than tugging at a towel or putting your gross gym clothes back. I own two of these and rotate them through the wash every week.
Hairwrap (Pack of 3) – These wraps are super absorbent. My hair is long and thick – getting it dry is critical to getting the rest of my dried off. The wrap secures with a button. (See photo at the bottom of page)
Flip Flops Havaianas “Slim Flip Flop” also available here (potentially at a discount depending on your size/color preference). Rubber flip flops are an obvious requirement for using gym showers. I like these because they are non-slip and very high quality. I can tell you from experience that you will wear through the sole before you’ll break the plastic “thong” part – pretty impressive in comparison to any other kind I’ve tried.
Blow Dryer – Using a high-speed blow dryer has made a world of difference in the quality of my blowouts and cuts my dry time. A good quality high-speed blow dryer is an investment, but trust me, you will be very happy with the results. I own this blow dryer and retired it to my gym bag after my husband bought me the Dyson Dyson Hair Dryer as a gift. To be honest, I am obsessed with my Dyson blow dryer and am always disappointed after I use this one now. I do not carry my dyson blow dryer with me to the gym because I am afraid I will damage it and I do not empty my gym bag (other than towel/gym clothes) ever. My dry time with the Dyson is around 5 minutes, dry time with this one takes around 9. I am hoping to eventually do a comparison blog post of my two high speed blow dryers and a regular blow dryer so I can show everyone the difference – its amazing!
Brush I’ve used this brush for the last 3 years. I’ve seen less breakage and my hair looks much healthier. This is the only brush I use on my hair when its wet.
Curling Iron (Old) – This is an old Hot Tools curling Iron. I use the T3 one at home for my daily needs. This one was retired to my gym bag.
Makeup Bag (Old) Similar I love my makeup bag because its coated and wipes clean. If you are in the market for a Kate Spade one, sign up for their emails and wait until you get an email for a “Surprise Sale.” The Surprise Sale is held once every 3 months or so and they always have these makeup bags discounted 50% or more.
Shampoo/Body Wash Combo I used to have a mini conditioner, shampoo and body wash in my bag. I found that the minis ran out and I’d forget to refill them and finally just switched to a full size shampoo/body wash combo. I do not use conditioner at the gym because I use the 10-in-1 CC Cream below and its an after shower deep conditioner – this combo works well and saves room in my gym bag. I like this one because the pump screws tight and it never leaks onto my other stuff.
Makeup – I do not keep any powder or solid products in my gym bag because I have had so much makeup ruined during travel – it’s just not worth it. My post gym look light and professional. I work for a construction company and prefer that my makeup is not the first thing that my coworkers notice about me. I do my makeup with my dominant (right) hand while I curl my hair with my left hand.
Caviar Anti-Aging Cc Cream I use this product before blow drying and it serves as a blow dry cream and conditioner. This combo works well on my long thick hair. I originally received this product as a sample and just ordered the full size because I love it.
Mini Deodorant I love Native deodorant because its aluminum free and I can pronounce everything on the ingredient list. They make fun ‘seasonal” flavors like mimosa and pumpkin spice latte. They typically offer a mini deodorant for $3 with the purchase of a full size. I keep the mini in my gym bag.
Brow Pencil I am currently going through a bit of an eyebrow obsession. Strong brows are in and I want them! I have the same pencil at home for daily use and love it.
Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner I consider this eyeliner a must have. I started using 4 years ago after a friend came to happy hour with the sharpest most perfect line of eyeliner. I asked if she’d just reapplied… turns out she had actually applied her eyeliner 10 hours earlier. I immediately purchased the kind she used and have never looked back.
Mascara This is a great mascara – I switch between this one and a Chanel one. Right now I have this one in my gym bag and the Chanel one at home.
Touche Eclat I do not use concealer – I’ve never found one that I like. I’ve used this under my eyes for years and it works great. It also work as a highlighter.
Brow Gel – If you are growing out your brows or have thicker brows, this is a great product. It ensures that they stay neat and in place all day. I use the clear gel. Bonus – its great for taming fly aways. I have really bad postpartum “angel hairs” and a quick swipe of these leaves my hairline looking neat
‘Base One’ Pro Pencil This is a brand new product for me. I use it under my eyebrows and it helps to define them. I used it for about a week at home and decided to purchase a second one for my gym bag. Its an extra step, but I am really loving the look.
Caviar Stick Eye (Rosegold) – I recommend these sticks to anyone who hates powder eyeshadow. They are awesome because they are foolproof to apply and they DO NOT CREASE. I use powder eyeshadow for special events, but hate how it flakes all over the rest of my face during application. I use the rosegold color on its own for my low key work look. I use it as a base and layer darker colors of the caviar sticks over it when I am at home.
Tinted Lip Treatment (Petal) Sugar Lip balm is amazing. The petal color is a soft pink. I like it because it moisturizes my lips, but I am not committed to wearing lipstick for the rest of the day since the color is barely noticeable. Perfect for my low-key work look. If I am feeling fancy, I sometimes put a small dot on each cheek and use it as blush.
Tinted Moisturizer – This moisturizer is a staple of mine – I’ve probably used it since 2009? I always try new products and am disappointed and end up back with my favorite. I use the nude color.
Perfume Sample – Nordstrom includes 3 free samples with any makeup purchase and I always pick the perfume because they are perfect to throw in my gym makeup bag! I always find the best new scents trying these out.
